Patna: A couple from Bengal allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling fan of a hotel in Muzffarpur, around 80km north of Patna, on Friday.
The police on Saturday recovered the bodies of the couple, identified as Swapan Payra (22) and his wife Khukumani Payra (20), from a room of Hotel Anand at Bhagwanpur.
The hotel is hardly 200m away from the Sadar police station under whose jurisdiction the area falls. The station house officer of Sadar police station, Mohammad Sujauddin, said no suicide note had been recovered from the room. The identity of the deceased, stated to be residents of Rampura Mohanpur in Bengal's West Medinipur district, was ascertained with the help of their Aadhaar cards.
An employee told the police that the couple were last seen on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, the cleaner knocked the room door but in vain. He informed the manager, who called the police. A police team in the presence of a magistrate opened the room around 2pm on Saturday.
"We are in touch with our counterparts in Bengal to get more details about the couple," the SHO said, adding that the bodies had been sent to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
The police sealed the room.
