Konwar was the chief guest on the inaugural day of the event, during which the residents of the capital experienced slices of Bengali culture. Konwar was welcomed amid blowing of conch shells and ulu dhwani (a tradition followed at all auspicious Bengali events). Dilip Kumar Sinha, the president of Bengalee Association, Bihar, said: “Before 1938, the British was following a domicile policy in Bihar. The policy did not allow immigrants to get government jobs in Bihar. Bengali Association, Bihar, was formed to fight against such discriminations.” Jha said Bengalis have a big contribution to every sphere of life and they are successful in their respective fields. Shanti Mitra (82), a participant, said: “It is nice to see so many Bengali people gathering at a venue in the capital of Bihar.” Supreme Court Justice SJ Mukhopadhyaya was also present on the occasion among others.
