Self-confidence
My school instilled self-confidence. I learnt to take prompt and important decisions. I learnt about leadership. For me, the memory of friends will always be special. Apart from the fete, sports, debates and quizzes, being the president for a year was awesome.

Picnic fun
For me it was a cold day in December, a school picnic. It was an extraordinary trip. We hopped on to a toy train and were shouting out the spellings of hippopotamus and rhinoceros. What a sight it made for — the senior-most class spelling out names of different animals. Silly, but fun nevertheless! Now, whenever I go to a zoo and see various animals, I remember the day.

Not a cake walk
Extra-curricular activities were my life support. One incident, however, stands out. In Class VII, I took blame of having eaten a cake in class to save my friend. I thought the teacher would reduce the punishment, since I was a sincere student. Sincerity didn’t pay and I was standing outside the principal’s office. I wish I had at least tasted the cake. Kudos to friendship!

Frankly Football
It was the last day of school and we decided on a football game. The captains were chosen and sides selected. But we didn’t argue with each other over fouls and follies. Even the most unskilled ones seemed to be at their best that day. Although we lost, I’m sure my team will remember the defeat. The match brought tears of joy.

Wonder years
I remember the classrooms, grounds, canteen and friends. Every period seemed a battle, the festivities surrounding a teacher’s absence were fun, the “backbenchers” tag seemed cool. Being sent out was never a punishment. We’d squeeze our world in a 20-minute break and every free period left us craving for more. Then, five minutes felt like ages and now 12 wonder years have gone by.
