Patna: The president of the state chapter of Ayush Medical Association, Dr Madhurendu Pandey, on Saturday said the State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines had become a centre of corruption.
He said despite the Supreme Court derecognising the graduate of ayurveda medicine and surgery (GAMS) degree course after the 2003 batch, the State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines was getting alumni from post-2003 batches affiliated to it.
Pandey said this while coming out of the state working committee's meeting of his association on Sunday. "We have a list of 221 students of 2012, 2013 and 2014 batches of GAMS who have been affiliated to the State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines. This is against the Supreme Court order. We have submitted a copy of the documents to the health department. We seek action from health minister Mangal Pandey," added Pandey.
He also sought a probe into the past 10 years' works of the State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines.
"The State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines has not only affiliated passouts from the derecognised GAMS course affiliated to it but it has also included the students of the derecognised course in the voters list for the upcoming Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) election," said Pandey.
The Ayush Medical Association had earlier claimed about bogus voters' participation in the CCIM polls for electing four representatives from Bihar. The CCIM runs under the Union ministry of Ayush, which happens to be the regulatory body of Ayush institutions across the country. CCIM runs on the lines of Medical Council of India (MCI). While MCI regulates MBBS education, the CCIM regulates the Ayush medical institutions running in the country.
It is conducting election for the four representatives from Bihar. Its result is supposed to be out by December 8.
Madhurendu Pandey, along with the president of Akhil Bharatiya Ayurveda Mahasammelan, Dhananjay Sharma, had earlier shot off a joint letter to the health department according to which a former president of State Council of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines, who was contesting the election had financial irregularity charges against him apart from a case lodged against him at a police station.
Both Ayush Medical Association and Akhil Bharatiya Ayurveda Mahasammelan have sought intervention of the state health department in this matter. They have requested the department to appeal to the CCIM to cancel the election.
