Patna, March 4: The state government today laid to rest speculation that former deputy inspector-general (DIG) of Saran, Alok Kumar, would be repatriated to his home cadre (J&K).

“There is no proposal to send him back,” stated a written answer of a question asked by BJP MLA Vinod Narayan Jha in the Assembly today.

The question failed to come up in the House as the allotted time for the question hour had lapsed. However, Jha was given a written answer to his question by minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary.

In the same reply, however, the government mentioned that charges are being framed against Alok Kumar in a department proceedings initiated against him.

Alok Kumar was charged with demanding Rs 10-crore bribe from a liquor trader.

The government maintained that the repatriation of Alok Kumar was not being considered because it wanted the inquiry being held against him to be completed soon.

The 1997-batch IPS officer hailing from Hilsa in Nalanda, the native village of chief minister Nitish Kumar, is now facing charges of demanding Rs 10 crore as extortion from a representative of Saharanpur-based liquor manufacturing company.

The cop was put under suspension in January after a complaint was lodged against him with the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) police station in Patna on the basis of a written statement of Tunaji Pandey, a resident of Siwan.

The EOU sleuths searched his house in Patliputra Colony in the capital in February after he sought extension of his leave from the home department.

The government also gave updates in cases against three other IPS officers, all SP-ranked officers, — Shivdeep Lande, Anasuyia Ransingh and Babu Ram.

In Lande’s case, the DIG Purnea (Bacchu Singh Meena) was investigating an allegation of extortion from a businessman, while department proceedings have been initiated against the former Sheikhpura SP Anasuyia Ransingh, the government stressed.
