Murder prompts road blockade

Muzaffarpur: Traffic on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga road (National Highway 57) was crippled for five hours on Wednesday following a blockade put up by villagers near Sharfuddinpur village in protest against the murder of a scrap trader, Guddu Sah.

Criminals had killed 40-year-old Sah last Thursday. The villagers blocked a stretch of the road on Wednesday to draw the attention of police and administrative officials.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded in the snarl, bringing traffic to a halt for close to five hours. Deputy superintendent of police (east) Muttafique Ahmad rushed to the site and persuaded them to lift their blockade.

Home décor at fair

Patna: Jivan Roshani Seva Sansthan will organise the Bihar Consumer Expo Mela at Gandhi Maidan from February 20. The event will continue for 10 days. Among the attractions at the fair would be crockery, electronic appliances, home décor and delicacies. Ranjeet Pandey, the fair organiser, said on Wednesday that at least 200 stalls would be set up for the event. Entrepreneurs will come from Jharkhand, Bengal, Rajasthan, Delhi and Maharashtra.

School cooks

Patna: Members of the state mid-day meal cooks' association would protest from February 25 to register their demands. The association took the decision at a meeting on Wednesday. The cooks demand an upward revision of wages. At present, they get Rs 1,000 a month for 10 months a year.

CRPF raid

Gaya: Central Reserve Police Force personnel late on Tuesday evening recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a cave at Chhakarbandha village under the jurisdiction of Dumaria police station during a combing operation. The CRPF's 159th battalion commandant, Dhiraj Kumar, said 133 can bombs, 90kg of explosives, 9kg ammonium nitrate, 23 hand grenades, five rifles and one improvised explosive device were recovered in the operation.

Maoist arrested

Munger: Hardcore Maoist Monu Koda was arrested on Wednesday from a Naxalite camp in Bhimbandh forest in Munger. Naxalite literature and banners were also seized from him, said Munger superintendent of police Varun Kumar.
