Patna: At least two dozen people allegedly kidnapped a college student from her house in Hajipur late on Saturday night after shooting at and injuring her father.
Police sources claimed the needle of suspicion points to a minor boy with whom the girl "had a relationship".
The girl, a Class XII student, was kidnapped around 10pm from her house at Hathsarganj under Hajipur town police station in Vaishali district, 20km from Patna.
Her family has said she was sleeping in her room when over two dozen men armed with lethal weapons barged in through the roof and abducted her.
When the girl's father protested, one of the intruders opened fire.
The bullet hit the father's thigh. He was rushed to the Hajipur sadar hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
The father lodged a complaint with the Hajipur Town police station, accusing the minor boy and his relatives of kidnapping his daughter.
"Efforts are underway to trace the girl," Hajipur additional superintendent of police Ajay Kumar told The Telegraph over the phone on Sunday.
The police have detained eight persons for interrogation.
The girl's father, who owns a shop at the Bagmalli area of the district headquarters town had disclosed the names of a few suspects who were among those detained.
Police conducted raids in Hajipur and adjoining areas but the girl could not be found.
A Hajipur policeman, Ajay Kumar, said that the girl's parents had finalised her marriage, enraging the minor boy with whom she was purportedly in a relationship.
The boy, police sources said, had earlier eloped with the girl a few months ago.
The girl's familytraced the duo to Calcutta, but the girl's father kept the matter under wraps then and didn't lodge any complaint, sources in the Hajipur police said.
Another girl was also kidnapped from her maternal uncle's house in Ghataro under Kartahan police station in Vaishali district on April 2.
The family members had lodged a complaint against Rahmat Ali, a resident of Repura village in Vaishali district, but she too has not yet been found.
The police said the girl is a student in a local government school near Lalganj in the district.
