The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is leaving no stone unturned to make an impact in the Bihar elections.
Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi is stationed in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region till the votes are cast on November 5 in the fifth phase of the elections.
On Wednesday, Owaisi addressed a large public gathering during election meetings at Balrampur (Katihar) and Baisi (Purnea) constituencies. AIMIM candidate Adil Hasan Azad filed his nomination from the Balrampur constituency on Wednesday.
The local leaders of the AIMIM, including ward councillors from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, are being sent to the Seemanchal region to "build the image" of the party in the Muslim-dominated areas in the constituencies along the India-Nepal border.
Contrary to the initial claims about the Hyderabad-based AIMIM contesting on all the 24 seats in the Seemanchal region, the party has decided to limit itself to only six seats and the corresponding list has already been released.
On being asked why the AIMIM has limited itself to only six seats in Bihar, Imtiaz Jaleel, one of the two MLAs of the party in Maharashtra told The Telegraph over phone: "We decided to contest from only six seats as we stand a very good chance of winning them. We are making our debut in Bihar and it was not considered a wise move to contest in the elections from a large number of constituencies, as it would not have been possible for us to match the resources of the NDA and the Grand Alliance. We want to make a humble entry and then spread our base in the state in the later stages."
Jaleel, who represents central Aurangabad Assembly constituency in Maharashtra, said the AIMIM adhered to the same strategy in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra in 2014.
"We had contested from only 24 out of 248 Assembly segments, in which we won two seats and clocked second in another nine constituencies," said Jaleel.
In the Bihar elections, the AIMIM has fielded its state president Akhtarul Imaan from the Kochadhaman Assembly segment under Kishanganj parliamentary constituency.
The other constituencies from where the AIMIM has fielded its candidates are Kishanganj (Kishanganj), Raniganj (Araria), Baisi (Purnea), Amour (Purnea) and Balrampur (Katihar).
