Bihar Human Rights Commission on Monday issued a notice to the director-in-chief of health services to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the alleged violation of admission rules at Jyoti ANM Training School in Muzaffarpur.

The director also serves as the chairman of the Bihar Nurses Registration Council.

Commission member Neel Mani issued the notice after receiving a complaint from a group of students of the training school. The complainants claimed that some unscrupulous elements had helped 100 students enrol in a year-and-a-half-long auxiliary nurse-cum-midwife course in the training school against the sanctioned strength of 50 seats. Each aspirant paid about Rs 2-2.5 lakh for admission.

The complainants have accused Amarnath Singh, Rajeev Kumar Singh and Abha Singh of using their connections in the Bihar Nurses Registration Council to facilitate the admission of 100 nursing aspirants in the school. They were later debarred from appearing for the examination because they had been admitted in violation of rules.

The complainants have requested the commission to save their careers. Commission member Neel Mani has directed the health department to provide a detailed report to it by September 30.
