Police are still looking for leads in the murder of Asha Devi, 65, in Shivpuri on Sunday.
Shastri Nagar police, who suspect an insider's role in the crime, quizzed several people including relatives on Monday.
"It appears that someone known to Asha Devi murdered her out of deep hatred," said Shastri Nagar police station house officer Nihar Bhushan.
Asha's family members also suspect the role of an insider in the murder.
"The murder is shocking," said Asha's elder son-in-law, Ritesh Kumar, who arrived from Jaipur on Monday morning. "We suspect someone known to my mother-in-law had entered the house and after committing the crime, fled unnoticed."
The family members claimed that cash and jewellery kept in the house had gone missing too.
"Cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh and some jewellery have gone missing," said Ritesh.
The family claimed that the assailants must have been tipped off about the cash and the jewellery.
Ritesh, who is married to Asha's elder daughter Sujata for around two decades, said: "My mother-in-law did not have any enmity with anyone, as my father-in-law in his lifetime had distributed his property (the Shivpuri house) among his brother Mahendra Prasad and daughters Sujata and Neeta."
The ground and second floor of the three-storey building went to the two daughters respectively, while the rear portion was given to Mahendra.
The family members claimed that as Asha was alone, she used most of her time at relatives' houses. Barely a week ago, Asha had returned to Shivpuri from her brother's house in Patna City area.
Shashi Kumar Sinha, another relative of Asha, said: "She was a homely lady. She would often visit her daughters in Jaipur or Jamalpur apart from spending time with her relatives and helping them financially."
