Motihari: A man attacked a minor girl at Ranichhapara Milakan Tola in East Champaran district with acid on Friday night.

Nitish Kumar Das, a distant maternal uncle of the girl, was allegedly in a relationship with her for the past 4-5 months. The girl was pressuring him to marry her but he was in denial mode.

According to the FIR, the man came to the girl's house around 2am and attacked her with acid while she was sleeping next to her two younger sisters and grandmother at Ranichhapara Milakan Tola under Harsiddhi police station limits of East Champaran.

"When the girl saw the man enter the hut she raised an alarm, but he attacked her with acid and fled," said Vinod Singh, officer-in-charge of Harsiddhi police station.

In her police statement, the girl said the man was regularly following her on her way to school and eve-teasing her. The girl's two sisters and grandmother also sustained injuries in the attack.

Sadar hospital in Motihari witnessed a high drama after the girl was brought for treatment. Family members charged the doctors with adopting a callous attitude in lending her medical help.

The Sadar hospital superintendent said the girl's condition stable. "She had received burn injuries on her face and parts of her hands," said Dr Manoj Kumar.

A few months back, a woman was attacked with a corrosive substance at Akauni village under Chiraiyya police station in the wake of a dispute over property.
