Darbhanga, Sept. 13: Lack of quality healthcare continues to haunt residents, as some people found out to their horror today when the bus they were travelling in, hurtled down a slope beside a highway after losing balance.

The accident occurred on National Highway 57 at Gopalpur village under Sadar police station. The bus was heading towards Darbhanga from Piprahi at Madhubani. More than 40 passengers were there in the bus. Sources said the driver lost control when a motorbike sped down from the opposite direction and the bus tumbled down 20ft trying to swerve. One person died on the spot while several were brought to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment. At the emergency ward, lack of medicines and operation equipment such as sterilised gauge and cotton, greeted the injured.

Dr Papu, an orthopaedic surgeon at DMCH, told The Telegraph: “Everyone alleges about not caring for patients but they must see the condition in which we work. At least, material and medicines are necessary before taking any action and this hospital lacks such basic needs.”

He added: “Even fans are not running at the emergency ward properly. What type of services do you expect?”

We are still trying our best to treat the patients.”
