Academic event
Radiant International School hosted the two-day East India round of Scholars Cup on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the founder of World Scholars Cup, Daniel Berdichewsky said: "It is an international academic competition taking place in over 40 countries spanning subjects including art, literature, music, history, social studies and science."
The principal secretary of department of agriculture, Vijoy Prakash, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. The school patron Meena Singh, director Rita Singh, principal M.S. Rahman and vice-principal Mrinalini were also present at the event.
While addressing the gathering, Meena Singh said: "By hosting such an event, we have achieved our aim to make our school an international school, which trains students to become global citizens." Vijoy Prakash spoke on the importance of such global events and added that learning should not be limited to classrooms.
The highlight of the day was the team debate and the online quiz competition. The winners will compete tomorrow for the Scholars Bowl. Around 220 students participated in this competition.
Slam dunk tourney
Hosts Gyan Niketan School emerged as the winners of the Mithilesh Kumar Sinha Memorial inter-school volleyball competition defeating May Flower School on Thursday.
Abhishek Singh of Gyan Niketan School bagged the award for the best striker while Ankush Kumar of May Flower was adjudged as the best defender.
The CBSE regional officer, Raja Ram Meena, was the chief guest. While giving away the awards, Meena motivated the players and wished them luck for their future ventures. He also went on to add that not just the state, but the country needed such dedicated players.
The assistant secretary of CBSE, Arvind Kumar, was also present at the event along with the school principal Subodeep Dey and vice-principal S.M. Jha.
The vice-principal of the junior wing of Gyan Niketan School said the school is going to host a CBSE Cluster-VI volleyball tournament from October 12, 2015 in which more than 80 teams across the country are expected to participate.
The school administrator Anita Kunal congratulated the winners of the competition.
