Patna: The Gaya police on Sunday claimed to have solved the case related to loot of Rs 25 lakh from an employee of a toll plaza on the Grand Trunk Road in Gaya district following the arrest of seven persons and recovery of Rs 10 lakh from their possession.
A gang of armed criminals had looted the cash from an employee, Mansoor Alam, when he along with two others, Satyendra Kumar and Anil Kumar, was on way to deposit the money at a Punjab National Bank branch in a luxury car on Friday. The money was looted by motorbike-borne criminals at gun point ahead of the bank.
Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra told reporters in Gaya on Sunday that a special team led by sub-divisional police officer of Sherghati Manish Kumar Sinha was set up to crack the case at the earliest. The members of the SIT carried out raids at different hideouts of the criminals and arrested seven of them.
The SIT also managed to recover Rs 10.36 lakh cash, two country-made pistols and two motorbikes, which were used in the crime.
The arrested persons were identified as Guddu Kumar, Shubham Kumar, Pinku Kumar Singh, Gulsan Kumar, Dinesh Yadav, Kulendra Yadav and Bipin Kumar, all residents of Gaya district.
The SSP said a few of the arrested persons had criminal antecedents.
Two of them - Pinku Kumar, a resident of Wazirganj and Shubham Kumar, a resident of Atari in Gaya district - were arrested on Friday. The five others were picked up from their hideouts on the basis of the information given by the two arrested persons, the SSP revealed.
The SIT comprised of the station house officers of Amas, Dobhi, Bodhgaya, Banke Bazar, Raushanganj, Guraru, Mohanpur and Gerua police stations of the district.
