Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishore inspects Gandhi Maidan after 32 new CCTV cameras, installed in different parts of the ground, became operational on Tuesday. Kishore said these cameras will be active round the clock, providing live feed from each and every corner of the iconic Maidan grounds. The devices are spread across the 62-acre ground. The control room for the same, consisting of two giant screens, has been built near Gate number 1 of the ground and constables and operators have been posted to guard and control the cameras. Of the 32 cameras, 27 are fixed ones and there are five cameras that can rotate 360 degrees, the commissioner said. He added that the cameras also have night vision and their installation will be very useful from the security point of view, as Gandhi Maidan hosts important functions from time to time. The divisional commissioner and the senior superintendent of police will be able to check the footage directly in their offices. Instructions have been given to the police to ensure that the cameras are safe. The work was undertaken by the Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation (Beltron). The earlier CCTVs at the Maidan worked for shorter duration, coming alive on special occasions like Independence Day, Republic Day, Dussehra celebrations and major political rallies. The upgradation of the CCTV will be of great help at the historic landmark that was witness to many untoward incidents in the past (serial blasts in October 2013 and a stampede during Dussehra in 2014).
