A month-long yoga training programme at Shibpur Police Lines concluded on June 22 at a programme organised at Sarat Sadan. Howrah police commissioner D.P. Singh and state sports and youth affairs minister Laxmi Ratan Shukla were present at the programme along with yoga guru, Vijay Chaturvedi of Devarshi Yogapith in Howrah Maidan.
The programme was a culmination of a month-long yoga training camp conducted by Devarshi Yogapith at Shibpur Police Lines.
“The training camp was organised on instructions of the ministry of AYUSH from May 21 to June 21. It was conducted all over India, including Howrah district. Four batches of police personnel of Howrah City Police were each trained for a week,” said Sumit Kumar, deputy commissioner, traffic, Howrah. “I was given the responsibility of teaching the Common Yoga Protocol among police personnel in Howrah district. I conducted workshops in Shibpur, Uluberia and Bagnan as well. I primarily taught them the protocol and also tried to address individual problems of the policemen,” said Chaturvedi.
Twenty constables were given participation certificates on the final day. More than 600 students from Howrah schools were present. Students of Devarshi Yogapith performed various asanas on stage.
