Calcutta, Sept. 17: The CPM today detailed the allegations against the party's expelled Rajya Sabha member, Ritabrata Banerjee, on the basis of which a three-member enquiry commission had been set up, leading to his ouster.

A statement issued on the CPM's official website by the politburo member and Bengal secretary, Surjya Kanta Mishra, today listed four allegations.

"The allegations were: 1) continuous leak of internal party matters and discussions to the media; 2) moral degeneration in relation to women. 3) serious inconsistencies between his income and expenditure; 4) lavish life-style incompatible with the member of the Party," reads the statement.

According to the statement, the enquiry commission found him (Banerjee) "outright guilty".

"He (Banerjee) had been given the chargesheet by the state committee on the basis of findings of the enquiry commission. His reply to the chargesheet was considered to be totally unfounded," the CPM said.

The statement also said the CPM had tried its best to help him rectify himself repeatedly but failed.

"He has refused to rectify himself and persistently continued to malign the image of the party by various means," it added.

The statement said considering his "grave anti-party and anti-communist role", the state secretariat had taken the decision of "summarily expelling him from primary membership of the party".

On September 15, the CPM politburo had approved the Bengal secretariat's recommendation on Banerjee's expulsion. However, the central committee will have to approve the politburo's decision to make Banerjee's expulsion final.

#Banerjee's activities came under scrutiny of the party since February. The expulsion, sources said, was triggered by his explosive interview to ABP Ananda , where he lambasted the enquiry commission, headed by politburo member Mohammad Salim.

CPM sources said the central committee was expected to meet in the middle of October.

Banerjee couldn't be contacted for his reaction to the CPM's statement.
