Siliguri, Dec.11: A series of educational and adventure camps have been lined up for children with promise of a fun-filled and exciting winter.
Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation (Hnaf) will organise two consecutive camps at Jayanti in Buxa Tiger Reserve, about 185 km from here. “The 18th Annual All India Nature Study Cum Adventure Camp for the physically challenged children will be held from December 18-24, where those between 5 and 25 years will take part. This will be followed by a Children Nature Study-cum-Adventure Camp from December 25-30, in which children in the age group of 5-15 will participate,” said Asok Nandi, the president of Hnaf.
While speaking about the objective of organising such camps for the past 17 years for the special children, Nandi said: “Our aim is to bring them close to nature and try to help them become confident.” The Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, Sishu Sarathi of Guwahati and various other organisations from across the country will also participate in the event.
Odlabari Nature and Adventure Society will organise its annual nature study camp at Romtikhola in Kalimpong from December 24-27. “Hundreds of children, including the physically challenged, will get to learn about trekking, bird watching, nature study and rafting in the three-day camp,” said Sujit Das, the secretary of the society.
Nature and Trekkers Club of Jalpaiguri will also hold its 15th camp at Khumani in Chapramari Wild Life Sanctuary for children between 8 and 13 years. “Our objective is to grow leadership qualities and provide knowledge about nature to the children in the camp which will be held from December 24 to 29,” said Bhaskar Das, the club secretary.
