Weapons & battle skills on display

A display of weapons and the skill to use them marked the Army Day celebrations of the Trishakti Corps at Sukna Military Station. Lt Gen. Deepak Raj, the general officer commanding (GOC) of the Corps, inaugurated the two-day event titled Know-Your- Army on January 12.

The exhibition showcased skills by the army personnel which included destroying an enemy location. A display of various martial arts and paragliding was also carried out by the army units. The audience, especially the local youths, enjoyed the demonstrations.

The armament display comprised heavy and medium machine guns, rocket launchers, artillery, tanks and armoured personnel carriers reflecting the military prowess and war-fighting capabilities of the Indian Army.

The Army Wives’ Welfare Association, Army Postal Services, Gaurav Senani Medical Scheme and Himalayan Moutaineering Institute, Darjeeling, set up stalls to create awareness about the army.

Lt Gen. Raj said the basic aim of the display was to enhance awareness about the army and its capabilities among the masses as also to strengthen the bonds with the general public. Nearly 8,000 people including army personnel, NCC cadets and students from schools and colleges were present.

Academic award

Army School, Bengdubi, which secured second position in the CBSE Class XII exams in 2006-07 at the national level, was given the Academic Excellence Award on November 30 at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi.

A trophy and Rs 20,000 in cash were presented to the principal. This is the second consecutive year that the trophy has been awarded to the Bengdubi school.

Air defence

The 15th Army Air Defence Corps Day was celebrated on January 10 on the Trishakti Corps premises. Lt Gen. Raj, the GOC, wished all personnel and their families on the occasion. He appreciated the gunners for discharging their duties and urged them to “rededicate themselves to attain higher standard of excellence”.
