Salt Lake: Presidency University vice-chancellor Anuradha Lohia spent two hours at Bikash Bhavan on Wednesday waiting to meet education minister Partha Chatterjee before being told that he wouldn't turn up.

"I was supposed to meet the minister. After waiting for a long time, I came to know that he won't be coming to Bikash Bhavan. He will meet me next week," Lohia said.

Minister Chatterjee told Metro that he did not give Lohia any appointment on Wednesday. "I will meet her next week," he confirmed.

Vice-chancellor Lohia had arrived at Bikash Bhavan in Salt Lake at 1.30pm and left the place at 3.30pm. In between, she met higher education secretary R.S. Shukla.

Sources said Shukla asked her why some of Presi's better teachers had already quit or were planning to do so. The Presidency alumni association had written to minister Chatterjee on Saturday, complaining about their alma mater failing to retain faculty. "Eminent teachers who had joined the institution with a lot of hope had to leave in distress because of this (absence of openness on the campus)," it said.

Minister Chatterjee said he would go through her written response to complaints by the alumni before meeting her.
