Trio in net for stopping elocutionist

Three persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stopping a car in which elocutionist Bratati Bandyopadhyay was travelling in Hooghly and forcibly driving it some distance the day before.

Serampore: Three persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stopping a car in which elocutionist Bratati Bandyopadhyay was travelling in Hooghly and forcibly driving it some distance the day before.

Sheikh Khurshed, Samir Singh Roy and Paritosh Ghosh have been charged with kidnapping, extortion, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement besides a host of other criminal charges.

Some youths had stopped a car in which Bratati was travelling, dragged out the driver and driven it to a parking lot in Chinsurah on Monday.

The elocutionist's brother, Biswajit Bandyopadhyay, who was travelling with her lodged a complaint with Serampore police station.

Bratati had called up Kalyan Banerjee, the Trinamul MP from Serampore, for help.

"We first identified the owner of the private parking lot in Chinsurah where the car was taken. He gradually started speaking up," said an officer of Serampore police station.

Police will interrogate the accused to find out who hired them.
