Toto drivers thrashed
Auto drivers allegedly attacked a group of toto drivers in Bandel on Friday. Police said the assault took place around noon when the toto drivers were on their way to Bandel station to set up a toto stand. Seven totos were damaged and a toto driver had to admitted to Chinsurah hospital, the police said.
Amjad Ali, secretary, Bandel auto union, alleged that local Trinamul leaders had taken Rs 2 lakh from each toto driver to let them set up a stand at the station. A Trinamul youth wing leader refuted the allegation.
Asit Majumdar, the ruling party MLA of Bandel, said the dispute would be sorted out through dialogue by next Friday.
Volvo buses to Puri
Transport minister
Suvendu Adhikari on Friday flagged off a Volvo bus service between Calcutta and Puri from Salt Lake’s Karunamoyee bus stand.
Shyamoli Paribahan will run the service. A one-way ticket to Puri will cost around Rs 800.
Three held
Three men were arrested with a country-made pistol in Sukantanagar on the outskirts of Salt Lake late on Thursday.
A police patrol spotted Dipak Shaw, Rahul Banerjee and Bijay Biswas moving around suspiciously in the area.
When the police questioned them, the men tried to flee. The cops gave chase and arrested them.
