'Tis time to put on your running shoes

A marathon named after the city, a 15km road race for both pros and amateurs and a fun run will together make this Sunday a race day for thousands of Calcuttans. Metro prepares a primer for the 8th edition of the Kolkata Marathon, in association with The Telegraph.

What's New

Apart from the marathon, the event will have a 15km road race and a 5km Fun Run.

Eligibility

While the marathon is open only to men; both men and women can participate in the other two races.

Timings

The marathon will start at 6am, the 15km run at 6.20am and the 5km Fun Run at 8.15am. The starting point for all the races is Red Road, opposite the West Bengal Basket ball courts.

Medical screening

A mandatory physical check-up will take place at the Kolkata Marathon Office at the Kennel Club's Maidan Tent on Saturday. Only those who clear the screening test by doctors would be allowed to run.

Run for a cause

A portion of the proceeds will go to the SREI Foundation, the corporate social responsibility initiative of SREI Infrastructure Finances Ltd, and Kolkata Gives, a donation platform for NGOs.

Registration

Walk-in registrations are on at the marathon office at Kennel Club's Maidan tent between 11am and 7pm and High Life Management Office, (First Floor, Stephen Court, Park Street) from 9am to 6pm. People can register at www.kolkatamarathon.com by paying the registration fee and submitting an application. The registration fee for the Marathon and the 15km run is Rs 500 and for the 5km Fun Run, Rs 300.

Prize Money

The first prize in the marathon is Rs 3,20,000. The second and third prizes are Rs 1,60,00 and Rs 80,000. Cash prizes will be given to the top 10 runners who complete the race. The 15km race has prizes only for women. The runners in the top 10 will get cash prizes ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1,20,000.
