Tribute to a screen queen
A delightful hobby that sharpens and satisfies the aesthetic taste, philately helps expand the knowledge horizon about a host of prominent national and international events. A United Nations’ award-winning stamp designer, Dipok Dey has, over the years, collected innumerable stamps from all over the world on a wide range of subjects. To celebrate the birth centenary of legendary actress Devika Rani (picture right), Cine Central, Calcutta presents CINEPEX-2008, a solo philatelic exhibition on world cinema. Featuring stamps from Dey’s prized collection, it will be inaugurated this evening at 5.30 by Mrinal Sen. A stamp booklet in commemoration of Devika Rani will also be released on the occasion. The film Achhut Kanya, starring Devika Rani and Ashok Kumar, will be screened at 6.30 pm.
