If there was one thing that made Encyclopedia Britannica’s Know For Sure quiz extraordinary, then that would be the electrifying presence of quizmaster Siddhartha Basu. The energy that he brought to the stage kept all the contestants on the edge of their seats and the audience craving more.
Greeted with a thunderous applause at The Heritage School auditorium, Basu of Quiz Time and Kaun Banega Crorepati fame immediately took charge like the pro that he is. To get the finalists familiar with the rules of the game, Basu invited to stage volunteers, handing them chocolates for every right or wrong answer. The contestants all pumped up, Basu delved into a fantastic game of question and answer and took quizzing to a whole new level.
Vying for the winner’s title were two-member teams from Modern High School for Girls, Delhi Public School-Ruby Park and Newtown, South Point High School besides two teams from the host school.
From direct questions and picture clues to audio and video rounds and, of course, a buzzer round, the quiz had them all. Seven rounds later, Delhi Public School-Ruby Park, having consistently maintained the lead and slipped only once, emerged winners with 105 points, followed by Modern High School for Girls in second position with 76 points and one team from The Heritage School, who called themselves the Stars, in the third position with 75 points.
Everybody left the auditorium with smiles on their faces because besides chocolates and trophies, they all had the legend’s autograph in their bags.
“It’s fantastic watching Siddhartha Basu on stage. He’s a quizzing icon and his presence on stage is simply wonderful. When we were young, we used to have a crush on him and meeting him in person so many years later is simply too good to be true. The teams too were brilliant,” said Seema Sapru, the principal.
For the quizmaster himself, it was a grand experience. “It was lovely. The audience was fantastic, so were the teams. I would advise all the quiz enthusiasts to remain foolish and hungry and keep reading whatever came their way.”
