Student drowns

A first-year economics honours student of Jadavpur University drowned in a pond in Patuli on Sunday afternoon. Sahil Viswakarma, from Darjeeling, was playing football with three friends when the ball fell in the pond, police said. Sahil went to fetch the ball but got drowned. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.

New flights

Low-cost carrier GoAir will start operations on the Durgapur-Patna-New Delhi route from March 29, said officials of Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited that runs the Durgapur airport. The airline will operate an all-economy 180-seater Airbus 320-200 in the sector thrice a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

ICSE exams

The ICSE examination will start on Monday. Around 30,000 students will write the exams at 350 schools in Bengal. The tests, most of them from 11am to 1pm, will continue till March 31. The examinees will get 15 minutes to read the question paper before a test starts.

Jawan rescued

Government Railway Police found a BSF jawan, Hari Chand Thakre, in an unconscious state off the railway tracks near Bandel, in Hooghly, on Sunday. His identity card revealed he was from the 134 battalion and was posted at Panjipara, North Dinajpur. He is a resident of Maharashtra.
