Tanisha Ali, a Class XI student at a school in Rajarhat, died at her hostel on Monday, reportedly after falling down the staircase. The 16-year-old, a resident of Behrampore in Murshidabad, was taken to a nursing home in Baguiati where doctors declared her dead. A youth has been arrested for sending a text message on Sunday to a student at an engineering college in Kolaghat, in which it was claimed that multiple blasts would be carried out across Calcutta on Monday. The message bore the signature of a terror organisation. The Kolaghat police passed on the message to the city cops. A 22-year-old saleswoman lodged a complaint with Burrabazar police station alleging that a man tried to rape her when she had entered his house on Jamunalal Bajaj Street to sell her products on Monday evening. The woman said she had managed to run away taking advantage of a power cut.
