Calcutta: Gynaecologists, young mothers and health experts will answer pregnancy-related questions, dispel doubts and share tips at a round table discussion on Saturday.

Expect the best when you are expecting, presented by Bhagirathi Neotia Woman & Child Care Centre, New Town, in association with The Telegraph, is the first in a series of sessions on women and child care the hospital has planned.

"The idea is to start a dialogue and answer questions that women tend to ask doctors when they are pregnant. Women planning a pregnancy, too, have several questions. Through this discussion, we hope to answer all those questions and more," said Madhu Neotia, adviser to the Ambuja Neotia Group.

The idea of the topic came from the bestseller What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkof that was Neotia's constant companion when she was carrying her twins.

"One may not have the time to read now, but they constantly Google for information," said Neotia, one of the panellists. She will be joined by Indrani Dasgupta, former supermodel and a mother of two; Vidhi Beri, an expert on maternity issues; and gynaecologists Dibyendu Banerjee and Sanchaita Das.

Women often want to know if they can conceive if they have a fibroid or polycystic ovarian disease or why and for how long one should have folic acid tablets during pregnancy. Women who have undergone in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) may wonder how different it is from natural pregnancy and what one needs to be careful about. All this will be addressed at the hour-long discussion.
