Students dance to the Rabindrasangeet Anandadhara bohichhe bhubaney

Our school Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated Rabindra Jayanti on May 8 through a day-long presentation of the bard’s songs and audio drama.

The primary section performed songs and dances and acted out the poem Kumorparar Gorur Gari but for senior students there were competitions.

There was an inter-house drama contest for students of Class VI and they presented humourous skits like Roger Chikitsa, Bhab O Abhab and Abhyarthana. For most of the students, it was the first chance to showcase their acting skills and they did their best to impress the audience.

Class VI students sang a chorus of Phule phule dhole dhole along with the Scottish folk song Ye banks and braes, which had served as the inspiration for this Tagore song. While the Bengali department managed the rest of the show, English teacher Shrabani Banerjee Ghosh taught the Scottish version to the students.

The students of Class VIII, with a better knowledge of Tagore’s works, took part in a quiz based on his life and works. The quiz had been organised by teachers and students of Class XII.

There were also songs like Gohono ghono chailo and Sraboner gogoner gaye performed.

The announcers introduce the chorus behind them before the songs
