Students shine on stage

Several city schools hosted a wide range of competitions under the ASISC (Association of Schools for Indian School Certificate) West Bengal chapter, banner recently

Shaw Public School

The inter-school creative writing and quiz competitions saw 27 schools take part. Keya Sinha and Jayshree Roy, the principal and vice-principal of National Gems Higher Secondary School; Jayanta Banerjee, the principal of Orient Day School; Sujoy Ghosh, the principal of Rammohan Mission School; Prabin Shaw, a  managing committee member of Shaw Public School; and Tapashi Sengupta, the principal of the host school.  

South City International School

St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, girls won both the senior and junior trophies at the ASISC regional badminton competition. Among boys, The Heritage School won in the juniors’ category and Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education in the seniors’ category. “We would love to host this every year,” said John Bagul, principal, South City International School. 

Calcutta Public School, Bidhan Park

The school hosted the regional finals of quiz and creative writing competitions for the second year in a row. The chief guests were Nabarun De, the principal of Central  Modern School and regional secretary of ASISC; Sunita Srivastava, the principal of Sunrise English Medium School, Belur; Jayanta Banerjee, the principal of Orient Day School; Sarmistha Sen, the principal of Young Horizons and Protichi Lihiri Sengupta, the principal of Calcutta Public School, Bidhan Park. 

St. Stephen’s School, Dum Dum

Students showcased their skills in debate, declamation and painting. The theme for the painting competition was Natural Disaster and Indian Festivals. “I am thankful for giving us an opportunity to hold this event in our school,” principal Biswarup Mandal said. Ela Choudhury, the vice-principal, said: “We are very happy to host this event in our school. There is a lot to learn.”

Young Horizons School 

More than 20 schools participated in debate, declamation and painting competitions for junior and senior categories. In the declamation competition, Anjali Dayal of Young Horizons was adjudged the Best Speaker in the senior category. The day ended with the prize distribution ceremony. Trophies and certificates were given to the winning teams and participants by the guest of honour, Proma Das, joint vice-president of the ASISC, the judges and the principal of the host school, Sarmistha Sen.
