May 20: Marks averaging 90 plus in the ICSE and ISC examinations is a thing of past, though there are a few failures this year.

From Gyanoday Niketan to Loreto Convent and St Paul’s, almost every institution in Darjeeling has achieved a 100 per cent pass result this year.

“We had 12 boys who scored more than 90 per cent marks in their ICSE and ISC exams,” said Fr Kinley Tshering, rector, St Jospeh’s School (North Point). Of the 12, seven had sat for the ICSE examinations, while five for the ISC.

Mount Hermon, too, has a similar result in the ISC with Dipti Singhal, Reshma Agrawal and Akash Agarawal scoring 94 per cent marks in Commerce.

“Shankey Kangwil from the arts section also bagged 94 per cent,” said George Fernandez, the principal. Sixty students had appeared for the ICSE exam in the school and there was only one failure.

According to available information, the toppers in the hills are from Kalimpong.

While Neena Anu Joseph of St Joseph’s Convent netted 96.6 per cent marks, Siddhart Bhandari and Anurag Adhikari of St Augustine’s School, came behind with 96.2 and 94.2 per cent marks respectively.

Dr Graham Home’s of Kalimpong had seven failures among the 121 who had appeared for the ICSE. But the results of the 174 candidates who sat for the ISC exams have compensated for the disappointment.

Rahul Garg, a commerce student from Homes, notched a perfect 100 in accountancy with his total marks in the stream averaging 94 per cent.

Going by the records, most of the students in the hills have done well this year. The number of students appearing for these examinations may have gone up, still, the figure of failures has dropped significantly.

For example, Loreto Convent had 123/99 (ICSE/ISC) students, North Point (105/105), Gyanoday (58), St Paul’s (66/40), Saptrashri Gyanpeeth (131/58), St Joseph’s Convent (83) but all these schools have a cent per cent pass record. Rockvale Academy had sent 186 students for the ICSE and 116 for ISC. However, there were only two failures in ICSE.

In Kurseong, Abhishek Kumar, a student of Victoria Boys’ School, secured 97 per cent in the ICSE, while all the prominent schools in the subdivision have cent per cent pass in both the exams.

Dowhill Girls’ School also has a similar record. Sujana Mondal bagged the highest percentage of 92.2.

Among the ICSE-listed institutions, Mohit Dey of St Anthony’s School at Giddhapahar secured the highest marks of 96.4 per cent, principal Chetan Tiwari said.

Himali Boarding School has 92.4 per cent highest in the ICSE, while St Helen’s School has 91 per cent. The highest score at Glenhill Public school is 80 per cent.
