Gangtok, Feb. 21: The three-day Spring Book Fair began at the Community Hall here today.
Droves of people made a beeline for the fair to catch a glimpse of the inaugural day’s display.
Organised by the Sikkim Akademi, the fair was inaugurated by chief minister Pawan Chamling. National Book Trust editor Arun Chakraborty, Sikkim Akademi president Jaishree Pradhan and its secretary G.S. Lama, were present at the ceremony.
The problems and prospects of Nepali publishing were discussed at length during the panel discussion in the afternoon.
A symposium and a seminar have been slated for tomorrow. A workshop to address the issue of “Inculcating Reading Habit in the Public with Focus on the Younger Generation” has been planned on the last day of the fair.
The caption with the picture in Friday’s edition of The Telegraph said: “An armyman guards the body of a KLO militant, killed in a police encounter at Kumargramduar, at Kumargramduar police station.” It was a policeman and not an army jawan as mentioned. The error is regretted.
