Calcutta, May 31: The government today changed the secretaries of all three departments that have been assigned to Calcutta mayor and minister Sovan Chatterjee.

Calcutta municipal commissioner Khalil Ahmad has been given additional charge of the housing department as its secretary.

Former municipal commissioner Arnab Roy, whose last posting was that of the principal secretary in the school education department, has been made the principal secretary in the environment department. He will hold additional charge as the fire and emergency services department principal secretary.

A few other secretaries were changed today. B.P. Gopalika was made the cooperation secretary. O.S. Meena replaced him in the municipal affairs department. While Dushyant Nariala replaced Roy in the school education department, Ariz Aftab was reinstated as the self-help group secretary. He will continue to be the Burdwan divisional commissioner.

Aftab had been removed from the self-help group department by the Election Commission of India as the panel had felt he should work full time as the Burdwan divisional commissioner.

Another IAS officer, Sanjay Bansal, who had been removed as the Hooghly district magistrate by the commission, was today posted as the joint secretary in the health department, which is helmed by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

PWD secretary Indevar Pandey has been made the resident commissioner, who operates from Delhi and coordinates between the state and central governments on various issues. Pandey will hold additional charge of the PWD.

Goutam Sanyal, the principal secretary to the chief minister, was reappointed to the post yesterday. This time too, his tenure will be co-terminus with that of the chief minister.

"Sanyal, a central secretariat officer, retired two years ago. In case of re-employment, the government always mentions a particular time frame. It may be between six months and one year," an official said.
