Siliguri, Dec. 11: Move over Sania, the acrobats are here.
A 40-member Russian team of the St Petersburg State Ice Theatre will perform at Siliguri Municipal Indoor Stadium ? the venue for the recently-held invitational tennis tournament ? from December 23 to January 1.
A 2,000-sq ft elevated stage made of ice will be laid at the indoor stadium for the The Russian Circus on Ice, which is being presented by the Calcutta-based Celebrity Management Group. ?Such a show will be taking place in Siliguri for the first time,? said Bhaswar Goswami, executive director of the group. ?It will feature world class performers (including 31 Winter Olympians).?
There will be two shows a day ? from 2 pm and 6 pm ? and each show will feature a 50-minute ballet, Snowstorm, which is based on a story by Russian author Alexander Pushkin.
The second half will be filled with fun and entertainment, featuring acrobatics, clown acts and a special 10-minute choreographed performance on popular Bollywood numbers.
?The world class sound system will be one of the highlights of the show,? said Dharamdutt Pandey, chief executive officer of the company.
The show?s budget is a whopping Rs 1.1 crore, but the organisers are confident of recovering cost through sponsorships and ticket sales. Tickets for the show will be priced at Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 500.
?We may consider providing concession to students provided the schools buy the tickets in bulk,? said Goswami.
