Airport: Customs officials at the Calcutta airport have seized designer slippers and shoes and women's innerwear worth Rs 1.01 crore that have allegedly been smuggled into the country.
The consignments had arrived from Imphal and were bound for Delhi, an officer said.
The seized items include sports shoes of Nike and Adidas, slippers with the labels of Valentino, Vero Cuoio and Versace and assorted brands of women's inner garments.
Customs officials said they had received information about eight consignments from Imphal. "Seven of them, bound for Delhi, were opened and seized. The eighth, bound for Chennai, contained 164kg of cosmetics," the officer said.
The consignments were seized on June 10.
"We have been unable to trace the senders and recipients of the seven consignments.... We have contacted the intended recipient of the eighth, a company in Chennai, and asked them to send representatives. We will open the packet in front of them," the officer said.
