Sipra Sarkar, who died on Tuesday night, was the daughter of Sushobhan Sarkar, the great teacher of history in Presidency College.

She was born in 1931 and had been an outstanding student of history in Presidency College in the early ’50s.

After a brief stint of teaching at Surendranath College, she joined Jadavpur University in 1957. She taught there till her retirement in 1991.
