The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken an initiative to beautify Lalmohan Moulik Ghat, the principal ghat for immersion of Durga idols, on the left bank of Mahananda river.

The board of administrators (BoA) at the SMC engaged a group of artists from Calcutta and Siliguri to paint different stretches of the ghat, depicting important and popular installations and destinations in and around Siliguri.

“People are tired of watching commercial hoardings across the city. These paintings, we believe, can soothe their eyes. The paintings have also changed the ambience of the ghat ahead of the festival,” said Ranjan Sarkar, a member of the BoA at the SMC.
