Siliguri, Jan. 24: Residents of the Siliguri can now get basic information on the subdivision and download various forms simply by touching a screen.
What they will have to do is to go to the subdivisional officer’s premises, enter the touch screen kiosk and get the information or print the forms. Information on temperature and rainfall in Siliguri, tourist destinations, transport facilities, the tea industry, guidelines for different government schemes and election-related details like voter ID cards and electoral roll are available there.
“The main objective is to help the people get important information from several government departments,” said Smita Pandey, the subdivisional officer of Siliguri. “We have put the information according to our office records and will update these on a regular basis.”
Amit Kiran Deb, the Bengal chief secretary, inaugurated the kiosk this morning. He also appreciated the move to facilitate the government-public relationship.
At the kiosk, hard copies of forms of different government departments like election, registry, motor vehicles, backward classes development and passport, could be downloaded and printed for free, Pandey said.
Information about block profiles of the subdivision, names, locations and contact numbers of government offices and educational institutions will also be available.
Photo gallery, glimpses and information on the Netaji Museum at Giddapahar, Step Aside (the house where Deshbandhu C.R. Das had died) at Darjeeling, red pandas, cinchona plantations and the history of Siliguri supplement the kiosk database.
