Calcutta: She whizzes through the streets on her six-year-old Honda Activa to bring food to your doorstep.

Piyali Das is the first woman delivery person on the Uber platform. She delivered a plate of momos on Wednesday as the Uber Eats platform went live at noon.

In fact, Piyali and husband Dhiman are an Uber couple - Dhiman is a driver partner on the ride platform. "I have been riding a two-wheeler for 12 years," the mother of a seven-year-old boy said.

In her black Uber Eats livery, Piyali is all smiles. "I can earn some money at my own time," Piyali, who lives in Kasba, said.

While her husband, who had a transport business, started driving with Uber last year with a Swift Dzire taken through the government's Gatidhara scheme, Piyali thought of supplementing their income. "I have a schoolgoing child. He studies in an ICSE school," Piyali, who studied till Class X, said.

She is on the app from 8am to 8pm. "I do that for my own safety," Piyali, who has been delivering for Uber Eats for 10 days now (the company went for a soft launch before going live), said.
