Nanoor, Jan. 29: The clash between suspected Trinamul factions in Birbhum's Nanoor affected the four schools in the area, with few students turning up and classes being suspended.
No student came to the two primary schools. A handful turned up at the other two, but classes could not be held as the students were too few.
Teachers said classes being suspended because of political clashes was nothing new in the area. Many of the students are preparing for the Madhyamik exams that start on Monday. Earlier this month, around 40 Madhyamik students had written to the sub-divisional police officer about the violence in the area.
Satyendranath Saha, the headmaster of Nahina Angshik Buniadi Vidyalaya where only five of 180 students were in attendance, said: "I had no option but to declare the school closed for the day. Midday meal could not be served."
At the high school in Nahina, 35 of the 600 students came. No student turned up at Jagynagar Primary School.
District magistrate P. Mohangandhi said: "We will speak to the local administration and take appropriate action."
