One hundred and twenty meritorious and needy students received scholarships of up to Rs 6,000 each from The Telegraph Education Foundation at a ceremony organised on February 13 at Frank Anthony Public School (picture left).

For the year 2009-10, the trustees had sanctioned Rs 11 lakh for scholarships, of which Rs 5 lakh was disbursed on February 13. Sixty six students received scholarships of Rs 6,000 each, 22 were awarded scholarships of Rs 4,000 each, while 32 were given Rs 500 each to purchase books.

The names of the 32 children were suggested by principals of various schools in the Sunderbans area, many of whose students lost their books during Aila.
