Representatives of the families of two youths, who had died after sustaining bullet injuries during a clash at Daribhit, left for New Delhi on Sunday to meet the National Human Rights Commission and national leaders of the BJP, seeking their intervention for an investigation into the incident.

Sources said some leaders of North Dinajpur district BJP were accompanying them.

On Sunday evening, a meeting was held in Islampur where, Kanaialal Agarwal, the Islampur MLA, and the SDO were present.

At the meeting, it was decided that on Monday morning, an open meeting would be held at Daribhit High School that is close since September 20. “At the meeting, the guardians of students who study at the school would be invited to assert their opinions regarding reopening of the school,” said a source.

A clash at the school on September 20 had caused the deaths of the two youths.

The arrangements for the Delhi trip have been made silently, said BJP insiders, to prevent Trinamul from trying to foil the plan.

“A few days back, it was planned that family members of both youths would be taken to Delhi so that they could meet officials of the NHRC and some BJP central leaders. Accordingly, they were taken to Siliguri on Saturday night and on Sunday they took a flight to Delhi from Bagdogra. Some of our district leaders are accompanying them,” said an insider.

Badal Burman, the father of Tapash Burman, one of the deceased youths along with his uncle, and Nilkamal Sarkar, the father of Rajesh Sarkar, the other youth who died, have gone to Delhi.

“They had left home on Saturday night and have reached Delhi on Sunday afternoon. They will meet with prominent BJP leaders there, seeking a CBI investigation into the incident that has claimed lives of two youths, including my son Tapash. The police are denying that they have not fired bullets and thus, we cannot bank on the probe taken up by CID,” said Manju, Tapash’s mother.

Later in the day, they meet BJP national president Amit Shah.

“Some local Trinamul leaders had come and met us to know about the Delhi trip of my husband and my brother. We have not shared any information with them. Also, a proposal for a job for one of the family members and a cash assistance of five lakhs was offered to us by an MLA of the district through a messenger. We did not accept it,” she added.
