Mamata ties a rakhi on fire and emergency services minister Javed Khan at her Writers’ chamber on Wednesday |
Mamata Banerjee lived up to her reputation of being everyone’s didi by tying rakhis on her cabinet colleagues, party leaders and bureaucrats. Sources said she tied rakhis on more than 100 people on Wednesday.
First recipient
A police constable on Red Road. The chief minister asked her driver to stop her car on her way to Writers’ and tied a rakhi on the cop.
“I feel for them. They have odd duty hours and don’t get time for rakhis from their sisters. That’s why I tied a rakhi on him,” Mamata told reporters later.
Rakhi brothers at Writers’
• Almost all ministers. Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra and Aroop Biswas were among the first to come to her chamber
• Senior bureaucrats and police officers
• CMO officials
• Journalists
• Security personnel at the gate of Writers’ and outside her chamber
• Liftmen
The goodies
Everyone who got a rakhi from Mamata was also gifted a food packet that had fish fries, sandwiches, chips, cream rolls and laddus.
Personal touch
“Last night, she spent more than an hour selecting rakhis. She had a particular rakhi in mind for every minister or leader. Bureaucrats got a different set of rakhis. The rakhis she selected for women looked almost like jewellery,” a minister said.
Facebook wish
In a Facebook post, Mamata extended her “love, affection and heart-felt greetings to all my brothers and sisters of different parts of the country including Bengal and all over the world”.
‘Proud’ moment
“Its a very proud day for me as beloved DIDI leader Honble Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms. MAMATA BANERJEE tied a RAKHI on my wrist at Writers’ Buildings,” Trinamul leader Dinesh Bajaj posted on Facebook.
