Siliguri, March 29: Union home minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to survey the Tinbigha corridor as Dhaka and New Delhi are preparing to exchange the Indian and Bangladeshi enclaves scattered in each other's mainland.
The Tinbigha corridor is a narrow strip of land in Cooch Behar district leased out by India to Bangladesh to connect Dahagram and Angrapota, two Bangladeshi enclaves, with the mainland of the neighbouring country.
'If both Dahagram and Angrapota, along with other Bangladeshi enclaves, merge with India, the corridor will no longer be necessary. Like the residents of all Indian and Bangladeshi enclaves, the people of Dahagram and Angrapota, too, have the option of settling in any of the two countries. It seems the Union home minister is coming to see the corridor, the enclaves and get an idea of the entire issue,' said an official.
Dahagram and Angrapota are in Kuchlibari under Mekhliganj subdivision of Cooch Behar district.
Senior officials of the north Bengal frontier of the Border Security Force today said Singh would reach Bagdogra airport on March 31 and then take a helicopter to reach Tinbigha.
'As far as we know, the Union home minister will visit the Tinbigha corridor and might go to some of the nearby enclaves. Senior officers of the BSF will brief him on the enclaves and the Tinbigha corridor during the visit. He might also interact with the residents of the enclave,' said a BSF source.
