Siliguri, Aug. 19: The administration’s Puja guidelines for pandal hoppers will be displayed on hoardings this time, different from last year when it used to be confined to booklets.
The authorities will also introduce a single window system for Puja organisers to obtain necessary permission from all departments concerned from one place.
“Ahead of Durga Puja every year we used to release guide maps with information related to pandals, traffic and other helplines that we distributed from the police assistance booths. But this year, we have decided that apart from distributing the maps we will also provide the guidelines by erecting hoardings in and around the city. We will try to provide these facilities at least by early next month,” said Amit P. Javalgi, the additional superintendent of police, Siliguri, today.
A meeting was held at the circuit house here today where Javalgi along with other police officials, representatives of the Siliguri hospital, Siliguri Municipal Corporation and trade bodies discussed Puja plans.
“The hoardings will be erected along New Jalpaiguri to Bhaktinagar where we will mention important phone numbers, police assistance booths, traffic route maps, parking lots and important Pujas so that pandal hoppers from outside the town can get help,” Javalgi said.
He added that a meeting will be held with the Puja organisers to discuss the single window system where they can get all necessary permissions.
According to police sources, around 200 Durga Pujas are organised in and around Siliguri every year.
