Jalpaiguri, April 16: The “sensitive” tag on Jalpaiguri by the Election Commission has prompted the district administration to impose Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code along the borders.
The order banning “unlawful assembly” will be imposed everyday from 9 pm to 6 am. Jalpaiguri district magistrate A. Subbaiya today said at a news conference: “Based on certain inputs and after monitoring the entire situation, we have decided to enforce Section 144 along the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Bangla borders.”
District superintendent of police Siddh Nath Gupta, who was also present at the conference, said dialogues have been held with the Border Security Force and the Special Services Bureau to ensure a safe poll.
The administration is also chalking out a strategy to deploy forces at booths marked “sensitive”.
The district police administration will also open 20 helplines or telephone numbers across the district to ensure that there is no law and order problem during the election.
