Metro on Sunday: colour and camaraderie

After almost two months of nail-biting matches, the Royal Premier Golf League (RPGL), in association with The Telegraph, came to an end after Team Avengers beat Royal Realtors on Sunday. The RPGL, involving 14 teams and spread over two months at Royal Calcutta Golf Club, was marked by both competition and camaraderie. News of Avengers winning the league-format golf tournament came minutes after Calcutta boy SSP Chowrasia won the Hero Indian Open at Delhi Golf Club.  Picture by Arnab Mondol

Is it Santiniketan? No, it’s Lily Pool in Sarobar, silly. The green patch opposite Bengal Rowing Club resembled Tagoreland as dancers and singers welcomed spring on Sunday morning for Bosonto Utsob, as part of the Live In Lakes series. Dancers in vibrant costumes accessorised with flowers and a touch of colour on their cheeks swayed to songs of spring, recreating the colourful ambience of Holi in Santiniketan. “Lily Pool was at one time the pride of  Rabindra Sarobar, which has been finally reclaimed through music and the performing arts starting with Tagore’s timeless Bosonto Utsob,” said Mudar Patherya, co-organiser, Live In Lakes. Picture by Sayantan Ghosh

Jodhpur Park resident Archita Mitra had come with her two daughters, Anchita (right) and Arshiya, along with husband Anupam (not in picture) to the Calcutta South India Club presents Fun Fair Fiesta 2016, partnered by t2 on Sunday evening. The A-family returned home with a bagful of goodies from the annual carnival held at the Hindustan Park Road club. “It was fun! At the Treasure Island, we got readymade noodles, biscuits, soaps and a lot more,” smiled Anchita, a student of Class V at La Martiniere For Girls. Arshiya, a student of Class II in LMG, chirped: “We played a lot of games. 7 Up 7 Down was my favourite.” The proceeds from the Fun Fair Fiesta go to the club’s educational trust. “The money from the two-day fundraiser will be used for the education of needy and meritorious students. We also arrange free consultation by physicians,” said Calcutta South India Club general secretary Unnikrishnan Nayar. Picture by Sayantan Ghosh
