A two-day-long workshop on trauma management was organised by the base hospital at Bengdubi on March 6.
Continued Medical Education on Management of Trauma in Armed Forces was inaugurated by Lt Gen. D.S. Sidhu, general-officer-commanding of the Trishakti Corps.
Dr M.C. Misra, professor and the head of department of JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS in New Delhi, was the main speaker at the workshop.
Senior surgeons from the armed forces including Maj. Gen. R.P. Choubey, Brig. L.S. Vohra, Brig. Rajan Chaudhry, Brig. Tapan Sinha, Brig. M.K Mukherjee, Brig. R. Katoch, and Brig. Bipin Puri, spoke on various aspects of damage control surgery, decision making in orthopaedic poly-trauma, warfare vascular and abdominal injuries and prosthetic rehabilitation of multiple limb amputees.
Faculties from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune and the Command Hospital in Calcutta also participated in the programme.
Riding school
Lt Gen. D.S. Sidhu, GOC, Trishakti Corps, inaugurated Trishakti Riding School in Rangpur Niketan Complex in Sukna on March 9.
The riding arena of the school, that has been developed by the Animal Transport Battalion (ASC), had a festive look on the inaugural day with elegant stallions, dusty riding rings and a decked up jumping circuit.
Annual Day
Shaurya Army Pre School, Shivmandir, observed its Annual Day on March 10.
Brig. Jaideep Mitra, Brigadier, ASC, Trishakti Corps, who was the chief guest at the event, spoke on the relevance of quality pre-school education.
Neeru Sharma, secretary Family Welfare Organisation, distributed prizes after the programme. in which students of the school performed.
Shaurya Army Pre School, Sukna, observed its Annual Day on March 11 at the Trishakti auditorium in Sukna.
Jaspreet Singh Sidhu, president of Family Welfare Organisation, Trishakti Corps was the chief guest at the programme.
The function, in which students of LKG and UKG performed, included a welcome song, Nepali dance and skit.
Fire assistance
Army provided assistance when a fire broke out in a slum adjacent to the army unit at New Jalpaiguri along the IOC Depot Road on March 17.
Lt Col A.N. Soni, officer-in-charge of team 137, reached the spot with 15 army personnel of different ranks.
The affected area was cordoned off by the army to provide clear passage for the firemen.
Col Soni mobilised the fire tenders from Bengdubi Military Station.
The fire, that broke out around 4pm, was brought under control around 5.30pm.
Arms display
A fire power demonstration was organised by the army at the Teesta Field Firing Range on March 24.
The show was aimed at generating awareness about firepower and motivating the youth to join the force.
The event saw a display of synchronised live firing by artillery guns and infantry weapons like rocket launchers, automatic grenade launchers and medium machine guns and firing by T-72 tanks and infantry carrier vehicles.
A carriage of mortars drawn by aircraft and mules and an aerial display of army aviation helicopters were an added attraction.
It was followed by a display of some of the latest weapons, gadgetry and equipment of the army.
The event was attended by senior army and civil administration dignitaries.
Students of various schools and colleges from Siliguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Sukna and Bagrakote were also present at the programme.
