The body of a homemaker, allegedly disrobed and strangled by her husband, was recovered from a pond at Birsthali of Chanchal police station area late on Saturday.

Police arrested Raja Khan, 30, for allegedly killing his wife Ruksana Bibi, 25, after her family members lodged a written complaint.

The incident occurred around 11.30pm on Saturday when most villagers were away at a religious meeting.

Family members of the deceased alleged that Raja, who worked at a brick kiln and stayed at his wife’s paternal house, used to torture her.

Ruji Bibi, one of Ruksana’s sisters, said: “We were away at the religious meeting when Raja killed my sister. He took off her clothes. He later informed us that she was missing. But as his attitude was suspicious, police started interrogating him. Finally, he admitted that he killed her.”

A police officer said it seemed to be a planned murder because of marital discord.
