Sourav Ganguly was welcomed with a tika at Ramakrishna Mission Centenary Primary School in Baranagar on Monday, where he gave away prizes for the school’s annual sports event. Looking smart in a striped shirt, the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper patted each winner on the back and addressed the gathering of 300-odd students and their parents in Bengali. “I like the atmosphere of Ramakrishna Mission schools. There is an opportunity here for you to excel in both sports and studies. You should avail yourselves of these facilities and put your best foot forward,” he said. The former Team India star arrived at 11.30am and stayed for 30 minutes. The ground had started filling up from 9am. “He is more than a sporting icon, he stands for the right values... There can be no better role model for our boys,” said the headmaster of the primary section, Swami Shashishekharananda. Picture by Bishwarup Dutta |
